AAASP and BlazeSports America Conduct Adapted Sports Workshop for NIRSA Region 2 Conference

project-aspire-niclOn October 31, 2016, AAASP and BlazeSports America partnered to offer an adaptive sports workshop for the NIRSA Region 2 conference. The workshop was held at Georgia State University and included clinic instruction in wheelchair team handball, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair football. School and community adapted sports coaches lent their expertise to teach sports skills, and competition rules. Participants were able to experience and play each sport during the workshop and learn how they can bring these adapted sports to their colleges and universities.

On behalf of the NIRSA Region 2 host committee, we are extremely appreciative of the support and education provided by the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs (AAASP) and BlazeSports America. During the conference, they provided a dynamic and insightful Adaptive Sports Clinic for our collegiate professionals working in intramural sports and recreation. Because of this opportunity, our leaders in the field have the skills now to expand opportunities that are welcoming, fun, available, and competitive for all college students with disabilities. The hands on training by the experts in adaptive sports provides the foundation for intramural and recreational sports competitions in a higher education environment. Timber Hines, Director of Recreation and Athletic Facilities/Operations, Emory University, Director Georgia Recreational Sports Association, Host Committee NIRSA Region II, Co-Chair Operations.
